Matt Scanlan, a Tallahassee native, joined the firm in 2021 and concentrates his practice on tort claims, business litigation, contract disputes, commercial transactions, construction defect claims, property disputes, and insurance coverage matters. He is admitted to practice in all courts in the State of Florida.
Matt attended Florida State University for both his undergraduate and Law degrees, and immediately accepted a Clerkship with the Honorable Bradford Thomas at the First District Court of Appeal. It was there that he learned of his passion for complex legal issues and the intricacies involved in solving multi-faceted legal problems. Since leaving the Court, Matt has spent the remainder of his career representing small businesses, individuals, governmental agencies, and corporations in both the private and public sector. Over the years, Matt’s extensive civil practice has involved a myriad of issues, including business disputes, contract claims, personal injury claims, premises liability, medical malpractice, HOA disputes, employment discrimination, alleged police misconduct, and first and third party insurance claims. Just prior to joining Dunlap & Shipman, Matt administered all aspects of municipality litigation from inception to resolution as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Tallahassee.
Matt volunteers his time as an active member of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association, and just finished up a three-year term on the Board. Locally, Matt is active in the William H. Stafford Inns of Court, as well as the Tallahassee Bar Association. He regularly offers pro bono legal services to a number of non-profit organizations.
When not working, Matt is an avid supporter of the Florida State Seminoles, and spends a majority of his life running from one extracurricular/community event to another with his wife and son.
